Stroud’s Tigers scored on their first two offensive plays, led 30-0 with just over six minutes gone in the game and hung half a hundred on Mounds in the first two quarters Thursday night.
It was a continuation of the Tigers’ domination of District A-6. They are 5-0 in district, winning those games by a combined score of 276-64.
On Thursday, they went through Mounds, a likely playoff team, like Sherman marching through Georgia.
“Gore beat us, 43-0, but they didn’t kick our butts like this,” said a Mounds parent working on the chain gang.
“These guys are really good,” he said, gesturing toward the Tigers.
They were better than good on Thursday. The first snap of the game, quarterback Dylan Baker hit Jacob Beck for a swing pass that Beck turned into a 60-yard catch and run for a touchdown. A Mounds defender was flagged for grabbing Beck’s facemask, but Beck pushed him away with an arm to the chest and kept on trucking.
The Tigers stopped Mounds on the Eagles’ first possession and lit up the scoreboard on their next snap, which resulted in a 28-yard scoring run by Bryce Collins.
That was with less than two minutes gone in the game, and the Tigers didn’t slow down the rest of the first half.
Trystan Baker, Dylan Baker and Aidan Collins found the end zone in the first quarter, making it 36-0.
Trystan Baker and Bryce Collins scored in the second quarter and Kason Presley scored in the third, making it 58-0.
Mounds scored in the third quarter, avoiding the shutout.
The victory left the Tigers atop District A-6 with a 5-0 record. Their last two games are at Wewoka this week and home against Savanna next. Those teams are a combined 1-9 in district.
“I was pleased with tonight as far as execution and physicality,” said coach Josh Presley. “I tell the kids all the time, we want to be the fastest, most physical team on the field. I feel like we did that tonight.”
“We’re going to focus on ourselves. Whoever we’re playing, we’re going to be the best Stroud Tigers team we can be.
“No matter who we’re playing, we want to execute just like we do Monday through Thursday, or this week, Monday through Wednesday.”
The Tigers played on Thursday because Mounds was on fall break.
The Tigers are ranked No. 7 in Class A by MaxPreps.
