Prague man dies in I-40 crash

A Prague man reportedly has died as the result of injuries he suffered in a traffic collision Sunday night on I-40 near Shawnee in Pottawatomie County.

State Trooper Matt Rackley stated the crash occurred around 8:14 p.m. Sunday on eastbound I-40 at mile market 187.5.

The identity of the victim, 70 years old, had not been released as of late Tuesday because next of kin had not been notified, the trooper reported.

Rackley said the victim was driving a 2009 Toyota Matrix eastbound on I-40 and that the vehicle spun out of control coming to a stop in the center of the highway.

A 2016 Freightliner tractor trailer driven by Hardeep Singh, 26, of Clovis, Okla., was also headed eastbound and it struck the Toyota in the rear ejecting the driver an unknown distance, the trooper said.

The victim was transported by REACT EMS to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where he died from his injuries at the hospital, Rackley stated.

Singh was not injured in the collision, the trooper reported.

Condition of both drivers at the time of the crash apparently was normal, Rackley said.

The trooper listed cause of the fatal collision as unsafe speed for wet roadway.

He said both vehicles were equipped with seat belts but not in use in the Toyota.
