Please make note of this event change! The Wreaths Across Stroud Ceremony will take place this Sunday, December 17th, at 1:30 p.m. at the Stroud Cemetery. This is a date and time change so please change it in your calendars and tell your friends about the new date and time. The American Legion Auxiliary needs all community members to come out and help with the laying of wreaths on our veteran’s graves. There will be a short program at 1:30 p.m. at the flag poles at Stroud Cemetery and at the conclusion community members will lay the wreaths.
Congratulations to my great-nephew Lincoln Smalley, Parkview Elementary first grade student, on being chosen one of the Students of the Month. Lincoln is a hard worker and loves to write in his journal. Who knows, he might grow up to be a famous author someday. He is helpful and kind and loves to play basketball. Congratulations, Lincoln, on this honor.
Condolences go out to the family of Nova Collier. Willard and Nova Collier lived in Stroud for many years. Nova was a nurse and worked at the Stroud Clinic for both Dr. Markert and Dr. Jones. Her husband, Willard, taught Vocational Agriculture at Stroud High School. They had one son, the late Steve Collier, who was a Stroud High School graduate. He married another Stroud High School graduate, Marsha Hendrick Collier, the daughter of the late Gerald and Delora Hendrick. Nova was known and loved by many here in Stroud. I was sorry to read this news on the Stroud Alumni Facebook page.
Community activities for the next several days include City Council meeting Thursday, December 14th at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall, Stroud Toy Drive at 99 Nutrition (ends Sunday December 17th), and Wreaths Across Stroud Ceremony Sunday, December 17th at 1:30 p.m. at Stroud Cemetery.
A big Town Talk shout-out goes out to Stroud’s very own dentist, Dr. Francis. He is blessing a Chickasha man with a new smile this Christmas. If you haven’t seen this story on the news or Facebook, you should look it up. The gentleman was shown on the Jumbotron at an OU football game and people were giving him a hard time about his teeth. Dr. Francis somehow got wind of this and so he reached out to the man and offered to give him a new smile. We can be proud to say, “that’s our dentist.” Great job, Dr. Francis.
The 2nd grade boys’ basketball team played a game in Shawnee this past Saturday and came close to taking home a win. They ended up losing the game by one point. They will play again this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Gym. The 7th grade boys’ basketball team traveled to Chandler on Monday night to take on the Lions. The Lions held the Tigers to only one point in the first quarter but by the fourth quarter the Tigers were tied with the Lions after a first quarter deficit of nineteen points. Things got fast and furious with only two minutes to go in the game. The Tigers ended up losing the hard-fought battle by six points. Our Tigers played their hearts out and were so close to coming home with a win. It was a fast-paced and exciting game to watch. Good job, Tigers.
Tis the season to be jolly and nothing makes our local merchants and restaurateurs jollier than you shopping locally for all your holiday gift items and dining experiences. Let’s keep them happy so they don’t put us all on Santa’s naughty list. Have a great week and thank you for shopping local……………..first!
