Lincoln County commissioners during a special meetingthisweekadopteda Fair Board Election resolution setting the filing period, date, time and place of election.
The five-day filing period will run from Monday, Jan. 22 through Friday, Jan. 26. Candidates may file on those days from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. They must file with the County Clerk on the form prescribed by the commissioners in Lincoln County.
The election will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024 in the lobby of the Lincoln County Courthouse in Chandler.
Only registered voters of Lincoln County are eligible to file as a candidate and any person filing must reside in the commissioner’s district they seek to represent.
Commissioners spent some time in executive session regarding Court Case No. CJTD-2023-2, which is the matter dealing with the State Supreme Court’s petition to remove from office Lincoln County/Pottawatomie County District Court Judge Traci Soderstrom.
After returning to open meeting, the commissioners voted to retain the law firm of Collins, Zorn and Wagoner.
Commissioners also agreed to partner with Gateway to Prevention and Recovery as they seek a $150,000Attorney General Opioid Abatement grant.
District 3 Commissioner Lee Doolen, who is chairman of the commission, said Judy Smith, a representative of Gateway, will handle the grant.
He said commissioners also approved a proposal from Smith working for Gateway seeking $17,120 in grant funding for an Equine rehabilitation program at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds in Chandler.
In other business, the commissioners: Adopted a Grant Award resolution for Oklahoma Unpaved Roads grant for District 2 in the amount of $75,000.
Approved a resolution accepting a donation in District 2 from Gerald Briscoe.
Approved a Declaration of Surplus for District 2.
Agreed to hold a public auction of Lincoln County surplus.
Adopted a resolution accepting a donation in District 3 from Teddy Miller.
