Voters in Lincoln County chose a new sheriff during Tuesday’s primary runoff election and also selected newcomer Jim Shaw over five-term legislative incumbent State Rep. Kevin Wallace in the House District 32 contest.
Shaw’s vote total was 3,291 to 2,764 for Wallace. Shaw had led Wallace in the June 18 primary.
Voters elected Kevin Garrett as the new sheriff over Aaron Bennett by 77 votes, 2,825 to 2,748.
Garrett is a retired OSBI agent and Bennett is currently a sergeant with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Wallace, who is chairman of the House Appropriations committee, stepped up his campaign during the last month leading up to Tuesday’s election.
Voters in the Wellston School District rejected a $10 million school bond proposition. The vote was 452 for and 411 against, but it needed 60 percent approval to pass.
Davenport voters turned down a proposition to have the Clerk appointed by the Board of Trustees, 99 to 59 and defeated a similar proposition to have the Treasurer appointed by the Board of Trustees, 98 to 59.
Voters in the McLoud School District defeated two school bond proposals totaling $31,085,000 in the.
Proposition No. had 574 yes votes to 530 against and Proposition No. 2 had 599 in favor with 512 opposed, but both needed 60 percent approval to pass.
Paden School District voters passed a $525,000 bond issue 155 to 40 and a $265,000 bond proposal 156 to 40.
