Waukomis upends Davenport

The Davenport Bulldogs fell to Waukomis 58-22 in their final home game of the season, even though Coach John Greenfield said his team played really hard.

The loss drops the Bulldogs to 1-2 in the district and 2-6 overall with a road contest coming up Friday night at undefeated Covington.

Greenfield said kickoff is a 7 p.m. He noted that Covington sits at the top of the district standings heading into Friday night’s game.

“They have a good football team,” he said of Waukomis.

“We just gave up too many big plays.

“Our attitude was great, the kids played really hard. They really got after it. We were really physical with them even though we lost,” Greenfield added.

“We ran an onside kick that they picked up and ran right through us,” he stated, citing as an example of a big play. “We did some silly stuff.”

Greenfield thinks, “We still have to work on our tackling.”
