Preston Sowder, Madelyn Ledford and Nathaniel Nunn have been named the December Lions of the Month by the Chandler Lions Club.
Preston Sowder is the son of Josh and Mandy Sowder. He has a 3.88 GPA and is ranked 13th in his class. He is the class Salutatorian and has taken advanced English for four years and concurrent math. Sowder is also a member of the National Honor Society.
Sowder’s other activities include football for 11 years, wrestling for six years, powerlifting for two years, Peer Mentors for three years, Positive Peers for four years, PSI for four years, Business Professionals of America (BPA) for four years, Student Council for three years, Yahl for one year and Yearbook for one year.
Sowder has been very involved with the community, including making and delivering cards for the nursing home, Chandler Sweeps, Angel Tree, Chandler Recycles, Philanthropy Week and collecting canned goods for the foodbank.
He currently works at Sonic Drive-in and is also the janitorial manager at Physical Therapy Associates.
After high school, Sowder plans to attend the University of Oklahoma, majoring in Biology and minoring in Business. He then plans to attend physical therapy school and someday run his own clinic.
Madelyn Ledford is the daughter of Heather and Jared Ledford. She has a 3.9 GPA and is ranked 15th in her class. She has taken Advanced English for one year. She’s also won the Outstanding Spanish Student Award.
Ledford has been involved in Band for seven years, during which she has made the ECOBA honor band one year and Cimarron Valley honor band two years. She has also been the flute sec tion leader from freshman to senior year and is the current drum major. She’s been in Choir for six years and is the current choir president. She has made Choir All-State for two years and ECOCDA honor choir for six years. She’s been the choir vice president and soprano section leader her junior and senior year. Other honors include Student Rotarian of the Month and BancFirst Student Board. She’s also involved in Student Council.
Ledford has been active in the community. She has taught and helped at Faith Community Church of God, volunteered at Vacation Bible School, served at the crawfish boil, helped sort recycling items and volunteered at the annual town Christmas parade.
She currently works at Randy Bowen Chevrolet GMC.
Nathaniel Nunn is the son of Daniel and Jennifer Nunn. He has a 3.36 GPA and is ranked 42nd in his class. He’s taken advanced English for two years and won the Outstanding Forensics Student Award.
Nunn is the captain of the Academic Team, which he’s been a member of for four years, and has been a section leader in the band for three out of six years. He’s also been class president for two years, secretary of Thespian Troupe #1825 for one year and vice president of Thespian Troupe #1825 for one year. His other activities include Choir for three and a half years, Student Council for three years, Positive Peers for two years, BancFirst Student Board of Directors, PSI for two years and BPA for one year. Nunn’s community involvement includes volunteering with Stamp Out Starvation, painting the interior of the American Legion Hut, buying items for the Angel Tree and making Christmas Cards for nursing home residents. He’s also a Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Foundation 2023 alum and 2024 ju- nior stau volunteer.
After graduation, Nunn plans to join the Oklahoma National Guard. After returning from BCT and AIT, he plans to attend Oklahoma State University for a bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness and join the OSU ROTC program.
