Sparks man sentenced after guilty plea

A Sparks man facing a felony and a misdemeanor following his arrest has entered guilty pleas and as been sentenced.

Billy Ray Moore., 44, was formally charged June 3, 2024 in Lincoln County District Court with possessing firearms after conviction or during probation, a felony, and possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance.

He appeared before Associate District Judge Sheila Kirk and she set bond at $6,000. He made his initial appearance July 1. A pre-preliminary hearing had been scheduled for Sep. 26, 2024.

When he failed to make his court appearance before Special Judge Emily Mueller, she issued $25,000 bench warrant for his arrest. It was later returned and filed.

Appearing befor Special Judge Emily Mueller, Moore waived his preliminary hearing and the two-judge rule.

Upon the state’s recommendation as the result of a plea bargain, Moore entered guilty pleas to the charges. The court found him guilty as charged.

Judge Mueller sentenced Moore to 10 years in the Department of Corrections with all but the first two years suspended, a $100 fine, $100 VCA and court costs and to pay 991C fees.

On Count 2, he was sentenced to one year in the Lincoln County Jail, $100 fine, $100 VCA, court costs and pay 991C fees. The judge ordered the counts to run concurrent and with four other misdemeanors.
