Rolling Thunder Comes to Meeker

Thunder is rolling into Meeker on Thursday afternoon, with the Rolling Thunder Book Bus making a stop at the Meeker Public Library.

The custom-designed truck and trailer has over 2,000 fiction and nonfiction books. It’s decked out in Thunder colors and also has memorabilia, jerseys, player autographs and more. However, no Thunder players or mascots will be on the bus.

The bus is open to children in kindergarten through fifth grade, though they must be accompanied by an adult. Children can explore the bus and take home one book. The event runs from 1 p.m., and the library has asked that kids and parents arrive by then for instructions.

The Rolling Thunder Book Bus, sponsored by American Fidelity Insurance Company, is a statewide outreach program that aims to inspire children to cultivate a love for reading. The bus travels to schools, libraries, museums and other community sites. According to the Rolling Thunder Book Bus website, the bus is in high demand, so it’s a special treat that it’s making a stop in Lincoln County.

All the books on the book bus are new and arranged by reading levels, ranging from kindergarten through fifth grade.

During the 2025-25 season, the bus distributed nearly 15,000 books. It made 143 visits in 32 cities.
