Are you ready for some football? Well, I’ve got just the game for you. Our very own Stroud Tigers will take the field this Friday, December 5th at Ponca City High School in the Class 2A Semi-Finals. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. They will be dueling the Adair Warriors for a chance to play in next week’s last game of the season, the State Championship Title Game. \\ The Tigers received exciting news when Senior Jacob Beck was cleared to play this week against the Warriors. It’s going to be a tough game, but our Tigers have shown “true grit” this season and it has been especially evident in the playoff games.
It’s also going to be a cold night but let’s bundle up and make the trek to Ponca to support our team and our coaches. These guys have all worked hard for this opportunity. We need to show our support. I noticed when we played Wyandotte in the quarter-finals the visitor’s stands did not have a big crowd. I thought it was rather sad that the players didn’t have a bigger showing to cheer them on when it is quite an accomplishment to make the quarter-finals. I felt their community should have filled the stands. Let’s not let our Tigers look up in the stands at Ponca City and see empty seats. Unpack that ski trip clothing you bought for your vacation and were wondering when you’d ever wear it again. Now is the time. Bundle up, turn on your Tiger Blue porch light, grab your Tiger cowbell and let’s go cheer on the Tigers as we chant, “We’re from Stroud, couldn’t be prouder, if you can’t hear us we’ll yell a little louder.” It’s a great day to be a Tiger!
Once again, the American Legion Auxiliary will honor our deceased veterans this Christmas with “Wreaths Across Stroud.” The ceremony will be held on Sunday, December 14th at 2:00 p.m. at the Stroud Cemetery. An artificial wreath with red bow will be placed on approximately 800 veteran’s graves. The Auxiliary is asking the community to come to the ceremony and immediately after, help place wreaths.
This past week the Class of 1976 lost one of their classmates, Lavonna Gail Ward Webre. She currently resided in Claremore. Lavonna Gail was the daughter of Lavon and Carlos Mayfield Ward who both grew up here in Stroud. Her grandparents Willie and Nellie Ward and Orville and Mamie Mayfield were long-time Stroud residents. Lavonna Gail was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and brother Jon Ward.
