Letter to the editor

To the Editor: I was involved in a domestic violence case, and to my surprise, my OIDS attorney never once asked me what my side of the story was. In fact, I didn’t even speak to the investigator on my case until four months in jail. Also, I did not get private visits with my attorney, except one to offer me prison time. It came to my attention that every inmate in there had this same concern. Standing in a courtroom to discuss our cases in front of one another hardly seems like a private conversation. Are the OIDS attorneys working for the inmates or the DA?

Do they even question our innocence?

While in jail, I was called bad names, I was left naked for weeks while male jailers watched me on camera, and came to deliver me food, and the nurse actually stated that he would like to give me something to make me sleep for two weeks. In approaching this situation, the statement was made that he just makes comments like this, and it was brushed off.

I’m very concerned for all inmates present, past and future.
