Stroud Utility Authority to continue talks with sober living home

The Stroud Utilities Authority voted to continue negotiations with a sober living facility about the possible use of the Stroud Wilderness Center at its regular meeting on March 12.

Kerry Rickner, with Clay Crossing and owner of PointofGraceSoberLiving in Holdenville, presented plans to the Authority for leasing the facility for a sober living home for men. She said that those who use her facilities have jobs and are held accountable. There’s a zero-tolerance policy.

The issue of security was brought up during the meeting as the facility is near a public lake. Rickner said they have around-the-clock house managers who live at the facility and know where everyone is at all times.

“We know when they go to work. We know where they’re at. We pick them up from work, and we know when they come back home. They do house check, bed check,” she said.

The residents also have a curfew once they’ve reached the 30-day point. Prior to that, they aren’t allowed to leave the facility except for work and appointments.

Lincoln County Sheriff Kevin Garrett also spoke on behalf of the project, saying it would provide a service for the community.

The Authority also approved several items for events out at the lake. It approved the Hot Boat Association’s request to close the lake for the Drag Boat Races on June 13 and 14, the Oklahoma Cross Country Racing Association’s request to close campsites for a motocross racing event on Aug. 29 and 30, and the Hot Boat Association’s request to close the lake for Drag Boat Races on Sept. 19 and 20.
