On a partially cloudy morning, several area schools competed at the Prague Invitational Cross-Country Meet on Saturday, September 7. The meet consisted of junior high and high school teams varying from Class 3A and below and saw a record attendance of 30 schools and 570 entries.
The high school boys and girls were the last two races on the course located along the south side of the Prague campus. The girls ran first for the high school group, starting around 10 a.m. with the temperature in the upper 80s.
The top three finishing teams for the girl’s high school two-mile race were Christian Heritage (1st), Ryan (2nd), and Wewoka (3rd). Christian Heritage’s Micah Chandler placed first overall with a time of 14:20.59. The top 20 individuals in each division received a medal as six area school participants came away with some hardware.
Chandler’s Shayla Perry placed 5th overall with a time of 14:54.62 while fellow Lady Lion teammate, Grace Myers, placed 6th overall with a time of 15:02.69.
Prague’s Payton Camren placed 23rd with a time of 16:26.33 while her Lady Red Devil teammate, Kylie Pickard, placed 25th overall with a time of 16:36.57. Meeker’s lone girls’ runner, Callie Sellers, placed 8th overall with a time of 15:11.92.
For the boys 5k race, Tushka placed first overall followed by Calvin (2nd), and Bethel (3rd). Clayton’s Q. Briggs placed first overall with a time of 18:33.55.
Chandler’s Braden Danker placed 10th overall with a time of 19:42.91. Prague’s Kaden Brill placed 20th overall with a time of 21:01.07.
Meeker’s Riley Randall placed 4th overall with a time of 19:03.49 while Bulldog teammates Elijah Bloyed and Levi Watham finished 27th and 28th.
Stroud competed at the 7th Annual Kiefer Trojans Cross-Country Meet on Saturday, September 7. The Tigers squads competed against several Class 2A and 3A teams during the hot weekend morning. The Stroud high school teams got some practice on the possible regional meet course, which consists of mostly grass with a few short asphalt paths to cross and is held on the campus of Kiefer High School.
The host team, Kiefer, finished first overall for the high school boys with all five scorers finishing in the top 10. Regent Prep’s Jackson Mazzie (junior) placed first overall for the boys with a time of 16:29.07.
Stroud’s Josh Wooden (sophomore) placed 36th overall with a time of 20:18.40 while junior Heath Bailey placed 109th overall.
Kiefer ran the table, finishing first overall for the high school girls as well. The Lady Trojans finished with an impressive four runners in the top five. Kiefer’s Zoie Kiddy (junior) took first overall with a time of 12:37.15.
Stroud’s Gabi Morris (junior) placed 11th overall with a time of 14:31.61 while sophomore Brynlee Wages placed 12th overall with a time of 14:44.18.
Up next, the Chandler Cross-Country squads will have the next couple of weekends off before attending the conference meet in Holdenville on Tuesday, September 24.
Prague has the weekend off as well but will be back next weekend at NRC for a meet on Saturday, September 21.
The Meeker teams return this weekend at the Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee on Saturday, September 14, while Stroud will compete on the same day at OBU.
