Countywide high school football round up

Chandler (0-1, 0-0):

• The Lions are coming off a bye week after losing to rival, Stroud, 26-6 in Week 0.

• handler’s rushing leader is senior Dylan McKinney, who rushed 15 times for 51 yards and a score against Stroud. Behind Mckiney in the rushing attack is junior Spencer Clagg, who rushed nine times for 47 yards. As a team, the Lions rushed for 158 yards on 45 attempts

• Senior Taylor Clagg leads the Chandler defense with 13 tackles, two which came for loss. Behind Clagg are senior Caedon Parris with nine tackles and senior Javon Frazier with eight tack-les.

• Sophomore Kaden Jones completed five of his 15 pass attempts for 26 yards against the Ti-gers.

• Leading the Lions receiving corps is Caedon Parris, who caught two passes for 13 yards against Stroud.

• The Lions will look to clean up their nine penalties from Week 0 that cost them 60 yards.

• This Friday night, Chandler heads to Luther (2-0, 0-0), who is coming off a 43-7 win over Community Christian (Norman).

Stroud (2-0, 0-0):

• TheTigersare coming off a nail bitter against Okemah (0-1, 0-0) last Friday night in which Stroud scored the go-ahead touchdown with 12 seconds remaining. Senior quarterback Grant Eler-ick found junior tight end Chasen Neuman for the game-winning score to give the Tigers a 40-38 victory on the road.

• Elerick completed 24 of 40 pass attempts for 369 yards and four touchdowns. Elerick also rushed for a 5-yard score early in the third quarter.

• Leading the Tigers’ rushing attack was sophomore Zeb Blancarte, who rushed six times for 60 yards. Blancarte also scored on an 88-yard touchdown pass from Elerick.

• On the receiving end, Stroud’s senior wide receiver Gage Parrick led the way with 11 receptions for 137 yards and a score.

• Defensively,Blancarte scored on a 69-yard fumble return late in the first quarter. Neuman picked off Okemah quarterback Kurtis Wilson twice.

• Next up, the Tigers host Prague (0-1, 0-0), who is coming off a shutout road loss to Cashion, 28-0.

Davenport (0-1, 0-0)

• The Bulldogs are coming off a season-opening loss at Weleetka (1-1, 0-0), 32-28.

• Junior quarterback Carson Funk rushed 20 times for 70 yards and scored on a 19-yard run. Funk also completed two passes for 22 yards and a score through the air.

• Senior Kyle Hobill rushed four times for 59 yards and scored on a 43-yard run. Hobill also returned a kickoff 99 yards for a score against the Outlaws.

• Sophomore Cole Yancy scored on a 19-yard pass from Funk.

• The Bulldogs home opener is this Friday at 7:30 p.m. against the Wetumka Chieftains (2-0, 0-0).

Wellston (0-1, 0-0)

• Wellston opened its 8-man campaign with a barn burner at Wesleyan Christian (Bartlesville). The Tigers fell to the Mustangs (2-0, 0-0) 78-54.

• Senior quarterback Alec Hagar completed 15 passes for 347 yards and four touchdowns. Ha-gar also carried the ball 25 times for an astounding 235 yards and three more touchdowns. In game one, Hagar finished with 582 total yards and seven touchdowns.

• Senior Chisum Whitnah rushed the ball nine times for 87 yards and a score.

• Leading the Tigers receiving group was junior McKoy Coulson who caught 10 passes for 302 yards and all four passing touchdowns from Hagar.

• Defensively for Wellston freshman Dakota Long and Hagar each recovered a fumble against the Mustangs.

• Next up, Wellston returns to 11-man for a week to face Christian Heritage (Del City) on the road.

The Crusaders are 2-0 and coming off a 30-7 win against Mount St. Mary (Oklahoma City).

The Tiger’s home opener will be against Mountain View-Gotebo on Friday, September 20, at 7 p.m.
