Big win for Wellston over Hollis

Alec Hagar ran for 301 yards and accounted for four touchdowns to spark Wellston to a 44-36 comeback win over Hollis Friday.

Hollis came into the game with a 5-1 record, but Wellston led through much of the game.

“Hollis came in with a good record and a good team,” said Hollis coach James Jones. “Their boys were physical and had a good power running attack.

“Our boys really answered the bell. We didn’t make a single adjustment at halftime.

“We just told them we needed more of the same and to pour it on.

“Our defense got a stop right away, and our offense went back to work. Our guys never let up, and it earned them the first senior night victory we’ve had in quite a while.

“I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

The teams traded touchdowns and conversions through the first half and were knotted at intermission.

Hollis took a 28-20 lead on a 99-yard and two-point conversion, but Wellston took over at that, peeling off 24 unanswered points and taking command of the game.

Hagar packed the ball 24 times for Wellston.

Chisum Whitnah ran 11 times for 46 yards and two scores.
