Town Talk is not currently meeting but that doesn’t keep our group from texting or phoning each other with ideas about helping our community. As my dad used to say, “Our zizz wheels are always turning.”
My dad passed away 15 years ago last week and there are still many days I find it hard to believe. Mom and I visited the cemetery to check on him and we both said, as we usually do, that it would be nice to have a pavilion at the cemetery where graveside services could be held.
Is this a project that you, my loyal readers, think would be an important project for our community?
We would have to get the City’s permission, but I am just running ideas through my head as I sit home during this quarantine period.
Many people have expressed interest in a splash pad and that project is on our radar, too. Both projects would be larger undertakings for us, but we are up for the challenge. I would still love to see the corner across the street from our old high school turned into a neighborhood park. We have many ideas on our list but there are several preliminary things to do before we could start any of these projects. Do you have any ideas you would like to see for Stroud? Please email them to me at okiesteakhouse@yahoo.com or message me at 918-527-9833.
How do you like our new paper? Several people have commented they really like getting three papers in one. Harriet Terry Johns, Stroud alum and current Bartlesville resident, sent me a message saying she was enjoying her “three papers” I have heard nothing negative about the new format. It is my understanding it will only be a combined paper through the pandemic period but who knows, maybe it just might catch on. Send me your thoughts on this topic.
Mandy Clark, Town Talk’s newest volunteer, is overseeing our Main Street flower pots this year. If you sponsored a pot in the past, look forward to a contact from Mandy. As always, we support our local businesses so we will be purchasing our flowers from Unique OK.
Please continue to support our local businesses. Many of you were asking on Facebook about our local donut shop. I spoke with the owner of GiGi’s and she hopes to reopen May 1st. She has her mother at home with her as well as a new baby, so she wants to be sure things are safe before they reopen for business. Their rent and utilities continue just as do our other local businesses, so let’s help them through these tough times. Shop and dine local………………….first!
