April showers have sure brought out the May flowers. I thought the big storm with all the predicted hail would beat the petals off, but the storm split and went around us again.
Let us keep our good practice of washing hands and social distancing of 6 feet to keep this virus out of Meeker. Still zero positive reports for Meeker and let us try our best to keep it that way.
The County Commissioner meeting Monday May 5th will determine when the County will open the doors and Meeker will follow what the Commissioners advise.
A great big thanks goes to Ford Insurance Agency in Shawnee for buying all the Meeker Town Employees lunch this week from Anthony’s Food. Thank you, Greg Yeager, Agent, Amber Duncan, Personal Lines Manager, and Charlotte Ford-Barnett, Comm. Ins. Agent. We really appreciate them seeing the need to support essential personnel.
PWA guys had to pull one of the pumps out of the Head Works. Both pumps have been getting plugged up with baby wipes and all kinds of towels from the residents flushing them. Please do not flush any of these kind of cleaning towels.
The Police Department’s body cameras and equipment came in and they are extremely excited about having them. They are really impressed at the clearness of the video and about the night vision. Remember you can run but you cannot hide. Chief Norton wants everyone to know our officers are now wearing the cameras. The complete system is up and running. Be careful how you act and what you say. The old saying was be careful of what you say because it can be used against you in a court of law is now in effect. Through grants and discounts the Town was able to purchase this almost $50 thousand dollar system for $13,600.
Donations are still being accepted by Growth and Development for the beautifying of Main Street.
I talked to Senator Roger Thompson about the vacant building where the Tri-County Herald once resided, he is already in negotiations with a new buyer. I hope that all goes well.
Brian Blansett’s current staff column told me he is working from his office at his home. Keep up the good work. I am going to slip here a little bit and let you know that Brian did tell me about another snake story, but I promised I was not going there anymore. A reminder as you are gardening this spring, keep an eye out for those ______, they would ruin your month if bitten.
Hopefully, the Library and Museum will be open soon.
Check out some books, use our computers, and check out some local history with some of our wonderful volunteers at the Museum.
