Birthdays with family

Earlier this month, my wife Pat and I celebrated our birthdays. As many of you may be aware, my wife and I share the same birth date, but three years apart.

I am the older one.

This year our birthday was a little more special than some have been in the past. We had our grandson Liam who helped celebrate along with our daughter Meghan and son-in-law Terry.

Meghan and Terry shared part of the late afternoon and early evening with us. Little Liam was around for the entire day and the day before that, and much of the afternoon and evening before that.

Liam, who had just turned 20 months old on that Thursday, spent Friday and Saturday night at Gigi’s and granddad’s house. It was a real treat to have him around that long.

Gigi and I also discovered we have muscles that we haven’t used in a while.

Looking back, it had been January since we had kept him overnight. That can be attributed to what has been going on since March and the times we are continue to experience.

Smartly, Meghan and Terry had kept the little guy in. They live in Norman so they were under the “stay at home” order imposed by that city’s mayor much of that time. They were very careful and Pat and I agreed that was the best thing to do.

We had seen them a couple of times during that time frame but not where little Liam spent the night with us.

Fortunately, that weekend the weather cooperated. It was sunny, warm, and a little breezy. Granddad and Gigi have a huge, fenced in backyard and there are not a lot of obstacles in it.

Liam loves the outdoors and we spent much of Saturday and Sunday in the backyard.

We played catch with one of my old baseballs. He could be a lefty, not sure, but he’s showing signs of that.

He tries to throw a large round ball over the fence but it just falls short of making it.

The funniest was watching him chase the Robins all around the yard. Gigi was videoing the fun he was having.

The Robins kind of teased him letting Liam get just close enough then would either run a few feet or just fly up on the fence and then back down on the ground.

What a joy it is for us to watch him have so much fun and be so active. It may wear us down some, but that’s OK.

As I said, having little Liam, Meghan and Terry here on our birthdays made it more special. We are grateful they could be here to share that time with us.
