Town Talk

Town Talk has brought a new business to Stroud inside an existing business, Unique OK.

The new business is called Unique Market Ice Cream Shoppe.

Andrea Flatt Thompson, Class of 1988, runs the ice cream portion of the store. I had been thinking ever since TJ’s closed that Stroud needed a place to enjoy ice cream but that a stand-alone ice cream shop might not be able to sustain itself.

I thought if it were inside a business already in operation it might have a chance.

So far, the ice cream has received rave reviews and “make your own” cookie sandwiches are also available.

The ice cream portion of the store is open from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sundays when Andrea is in town.

Stop by and give your sweet tooth a treat and check out all the other items for sale in Unique OK.

While you’re out, visit our other great downtown retail merchants – True Value, OJ’s Plants and Petals, Stroud Drug, Estate Barn, Kathy’s Thrift Store, The Treasure Box, Sisters Consignment and Welcome Home.

David and Janet Griebel were down Highway 99 at BJ Corral Flea Market & Vintage Sale last week.

They called and said they thought they had found something Town Talk could use. I was thrilled to think they were out shopping and keeping an eye out for Town Talk.

That’s what it takes – neighbor helping neighbor and all of us looking out for each other. Anyway, they ran across a couple of heavy-duty sandwich boards for us to advertise events, lend to businesses for promotions or what ever need we might have.

Thanks so much to the Griebels for donating them. We will certainly put them to good use. David and I were classmates in high school, Class of 1974, and you’d be hardpressed to tell that Janet didn’t graduate with us because she fits right in!

I hope when you’re reading this that 37 flowerpots have arrived in Stroud and been delivered.

They were supposed to arrive on June 29th, but you know how that story goes. Next delivery date was set for July 7th so I’m planning on that being the case. Town Talk sold more than this first truckload of 37 so we have 32 more on order and they should be here in a week or two.

I was originally told this item was being discontinued but now they’re telling me it was just the code number for this particular flowerpot that changed. That was great news! I’ll keep you posted right here and on Facebook.

The flowerpots have been a great fundraiser for us, and all proceeds will go towards new public Main Street restrooms. We are getting closer and closer to our $10,000 goal. David Kircher, Class of 1972 and his lovely wife, Angie Poskey Kircher, Class of 1976, just sent us our latest donation for the bathrooms.

Thank you to the Kirchers. They are always supportive of Town Talk’s projects for Stroud.

Are you ready for an other Farmer’s Market?

Town Talk will be hosting the next one on July 18th.

If you are interested in having a booth please contact Farmer’s Market organizer and Town Talk volunteer, Mandy Clark, on the Town Talk OK Facebook page.

This month’s theme is a salute to our service men and women, military as well as our police and fire departments.

Mark your calendars now to attend. Just a reminder – you better get there early if you want tomatoes, Bobbie Wintz. (LOL)

Hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th of July.

Remember to always shop and dine local…………….first!
