Services for Carl Jay Cornett, 70, of Meeker were held Monday, August 24, 2020. The service was held at First Baptist Church in Meeker, where Pastor Joe Jones officiated. Burial followed at New Hope Cemetery, Meeker.
Mr. Cornett recently left his earthly home for his heavenly mansion. He passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at his home. He was born January 1, 1950 in Okarche to Crawford Mitchell and Vivian Taber Cornett. He attended Dover schools and was a longtime Meeker resident.
He married Joy Marie Miller August 3, 1968 in Chandler. Carl had been employed with the City of Shawnee and Meeker until his retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Meeker. Carl enjoyed fishing, cracking jokes, driving trucks, and traveling to visit friends. He loved road trips, model cars and western movies.
Survivors include his wife, Joy, of the home; three sons, Ronald Jay Cornett and wife Ruby, Shawnee, Donald Ray Cornett, Shawnee and Andrew Todd Cornett and wife Anne, Portland, OR; his grandchildren, Karen Cornett, Shawnee, Kaitie Giza, Detroit, MI, Michael Cornett, Shawnee, Sara Cornett, Meeker, Ryan Cornett, Prague and Amanda Rector, Shawnee; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Brenda Steffens, Moore and Anita McCormick and husband Bobby, McLoud; a brother, Roy Cornett, Oklahoma; his dog, Mr. Pugs; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Richard Suggs, Darryl Cornett and C. M. Cornett, Jr.
He was a wonderful and joyful man who was loved by many. He will be greatly missed.
