Davenport’s Bulldogs scored early and often Friday night in a 52-6 wood-shedding of Yale.
They built a 44-6 lead in the first half, then ended things when Chance Acord hit Colton Van Fossen with a 45-yard touchdown pass and then for a two-point conversion in the third period.
The win puts Davenport at 5-0 for the season, and they will stay there for at least a week, as their homecoming game against Foyil this Friday has been cancelled due to COVID.
Carson Funk paced the Bulldogs’ offense with 246 yards passing and 96 yards and two touchdowns rushing.
The Bulldogs took a 14-6 lead in the first quarter on a 50-yard scoring pass from Funk to Parker Mitchell a 13-yard Mitchell scoring run.
The second quarter was much more of the same, with Funk hitting Mitchell on scoring throws of one and 15 yards and then connecting to Casey Harelson on an 18-yarder.
He closed out the first half with a 10-yard scoring run, then passed to Campbell Miller for the two-point conversion.
Funk and Acord combined were 26 of 40 through the air for 313 yards.
Mitchell caught seven of the passes for 91 yards, Harelson had eight for 82 yards, Gage Keith caught six for 42 yards and Ty Harelson, Colten Van Fossen and Miller had one catch each.
Mitchell had nine tackles to lead the defense. Jayce Phillips and Miller had five each, Houston Byord and AJ Jenkins had three each and Casey Harelson had two tackles and an interception.
