Town Talk will be decorating the flowerpots on Main Street this year for Christmas. We haven’t in the past but decided to take on the project this year.
If anyone has any nonbreakable bulbs they would like to donate, we would love to have them. Each flowerpot will have a small Christmas tree in it and we will use the bulbs to fill in underneath the tree.
You may donate your bulbs at Unique OK. You may also call me at 918-527- 9833 and I will be glad to pick them up.
When Town Talk has a need our community as well as our surrounding communities are great to respond with sup port and donations.
As well as organizing Town Talk, I serve as president of our local American Legion Auxiliary. We recently asked for quart jars for a gift we were making for our veterans for Veteran’s Day. You all came through as always.
After we decided upon this project and I priced mason jars, they were hard to find and out of our budget. We put the word out we needed them and received enough at no cost to the Auxiliary.
We found some on Facebook Marketplace for sale from Christie Simon-Bridge in Davenport. When she found out they were for our veterans, she donated them.
My mom contacted her cousin, Joyce Ellison, in Prague and she gave us jars.
Debbie Hamilton, On-Cue Manager and Depew resident gave us jars as well as Brandy Wallace from right here in Stroud. Auxiliary member Julie Bivin headed up the project of etching flags on the jars.
Others assisting Julie were Aleta Smalley, Velma Brant, Jo Braden and Elaine Buerger.
You’ve still got time to order a banner to display on Main Street to honor a veteran. We are hoping to have as many up by Veteran’s Day as possible.
Linda Waller purchased a banner to honor her late husband, John Waller.
Last week my column referred to him as Jim Waller and I apologize for that error because I knew John for as long as I can remember and never once called him Jim. I try to proof and proof again, but I still make mistakes. Thanks, Linda, for honoring John with a banner.
Congratulations to Brett Wesner on being elected chair of the National Newspaper Association.
Wesner publishes 15 newspapers in Oklahoma including our very own Stroud American.
We are busy trying to finish many projects while the weather is still nice outside because many of these projects require painting. We are anxious to get our Main Street building projects completed. We are hoping to have downtown spit-shined and polished in time for the holidays.
Thanks to all the merchants who helped make the Chamber of Commerce’s annual trick or treat event successful.
As always, there was a huge crowd and I saw buckets overflowing with candy. It’s another one of the many reasons we need to support our local store owners.
Have a great week and as always, remember to shop and dine local……….. first!
