Happy Veteran’s Day to all our veterans and servicemen who are currently serving our country. We owe you a debt of gratitude we can never repay and thank you seems so inadequate. We do thank you though from the bottom of our hearts for your commitment to our country and the American people. God bless you and God bless America.
The American Legion Auxiliary thanks everyone who purchased “Thank You, Veterans” signs for their yards. It was a great show of support and hopefully next year we can have a sign in every yard.
Town Talk will be hosting “I Love Christmas Movies” beginning December 5th. Movies will be shown on an outdoor screen at Unique OK on December 5th, 12th, and 19th. You will be able to watch the movies from your car receiving the sound on your car radio. You may also bring a lawn chair and blanket and enjoy the movie sitting outside if the weather is bearable. All shows will be double features with the first movie starting at 6:00 p.m. Watch this column and the Route 66 Pavilion Marquee for movie names, times and cost. We are excited to be able to offer outdoor movies and look forward to a great spring line-up as well.
Exciting things are happening in downtown Stroud. Town Talk recently put a fresh coat of paint on the front of the Masonic Lodge. We are working on the front of the Horn Building and have some neat Stroud history we are going to display on that store front. Willa Dean Stinson’s building, across the street, will be getting some attention in the next week or two.
People who stroll down our Main Street love peering inside the windows at all of Willa Dean’s treasures. We hope to be finished painting the west side of Pete Sawatzky’s building this week. We have lots of fun things planned for this downtown space. We appreciate the Sawatzky’s letting us transform this spot into a nice “Children’s Space.” Check it out when you’re on Main Street and watch it take shape.
The light poles are slowly filling up with pictures of veterans. It is not too late to purchase one for your friend or loved one. We will sell them until all light poles have a banner. Walk down Main and look them. I am sure there will be many faces you recognize.
Town Talk’s November’s Farmer’s Market will be held this Saturday, November 14th at the Route 66 Pavilion from 9 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Town Talk volunteer Mandy Clark’s theme for this month is “Holiday Market.” Stop by and get a head start on your Christmas Shopping.
Thank you to Michelle Whitson of the Treasure Box for hosting “My Favorite Things” holiday sale this past Saturday. I was out of town but heard lots of good things about the event.
It’s great to see a local merchant hosting shopping opportunities. It’s also great seeing the pavilion being used and creating some traffic downtown on a Saturday. Hopefully all our businesses had a great day on Saturday with all the guests in town for school events.
I picked up some salad dressing at Mazzio’s Saturday evening and the line for people waiting to get in was out the front door. I was told at the drive through that they had been busy all day. This is what we like to hear!
Eight-year old Hunter Mash told his dad that God put it on his heart that Stroud needed little free libraries in our community.
With help from his parents, Chip Teeters, Assembly of God Associate Pastor Jason Mooy and their Young Adult connect group Hunter’s box libraries were built. You may see them at the Route 66 Pavilion and Foster Park. Please feel free to leave a book or take a book.
From a youngster like Hunter to a senior citizen like my mother, people believe in our community and are working to make a difference. It’s exciting to see all that is happening in Stroud.
I was at Tulsa Hills on Sunday and noticed that in the middle of that busy shopping area was a Logan’s Roadhouse restaurant that was closed and had a “for sale” sign out front.
During this pandemic, many successful businesses have had to shut their doors. Let’s not let that happen here in our hometown. Let’s support our local merchants and help keep their doors open.
They need us and we need them. Thanksgiving is just around the corner so buy what you can for those family gatherings right here in Stroud.
Have a great week and remember to shop and dine local…………first.
