Town Talk

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in downtown Stroud.

Thank you to all the merchants who have decorated their windows for the holidays.

Thanks, also, to City Manager Bob Pearman and the City employees for getting our community all lit up for Christmas. Our town looks great!

Town Talk took last week off, but we are back to work this week in full swing. Projects we plan on completing by the

Projects we plan on completing by the end of 2020 are finishing the faux front on the Horn building, adding a few more “touches” to the Stinson building and finishing our children’s pocket park on Main Street which we are calling “Pete’s Place.” We are having children from our community leave their handprints on the wall, but we will complete this aspect as weather permits. We plan, also, on having the south side of one block of Main outlined in solar lights. This is a test block to make sure it is feasible and if so, we will outline three to four entire blocks with the same lights.

Our train engine restoration project is in the works. Mark Poskey of Poskey’s Auto & Repair has agreed to move it to Service King where owner Rob Gordon is providing the engine with a new coat of paint.

We must cut some trees down around the engine itself so that it is not damaged when it is removed. The engine has sat out on the side of Route 66 for some time and has trees and shrubs growing in and around it.

We work daily on projects for Stroud, but most projects take weeks before we can share the finished project with you.

Our condolences go out to Town Talk volunteer Jo Braden. Jo’s daughter, Belinda, passed away this past week in Texas.

Jo has been a faithful member of our group since we started and serves as our treasurer. Belinda came several times to play trivia with us when we were raising money for our many projects.

She supported Stroud right along with her mother. City Manager Bob Pearman’s father

City Manager Bob Pearman’s father-in-law, Tulsa resident David Atkinson, passed away this past week, too. Years ago, when I worked with Debbie

Years ago, when I worked with Debbie Pearman at First Baptist Church in the youth department, Debbie’s parents would host parties for the youth from our church.

They had a lovely home with a pool and always put on a feast for us. We felt lucky that we had two of their grandchildren, Rusty and Leslie, in our youth group.

Stroud has lost several of our citizens over the last few weeks and they will all be missed in our community.

Come join us this Friday night for our first “drive-in” movie. It will be shown on the north side of Unique OK.

The first movie will start at 6:00 p.m. and the second show will start shortly after the first one. The movie is free of charge, but refreshments will be available to purchase.

Make plans now to attend the Chamber of Commerce’s annual Christmas parade this Saturday night at 6:00 p.m.

Come early and shop with our local merchants or grab a bite to eat before the parade starts. It’s not too early to start marking names off your Christmas list.

Have a great week and remember to always shop and dine local……………………first!
