Everyone is celebrating Spring Break this week and I hope that’s an indication that spring weather is just around the corner. Town Talk is anxious to get outside again and continue working on community projects. One of the first things on our agenda is to get the lights up on our Main Street buildings. Fire Chief Chris Wilson has agreed to have the fire department help us with this project. We will start out with one block, from the Stroud Tag Agency to the Mason’s building, to test out the lights and process and then we will proceed from there. I am excited to light up Stroud’s “buildingscape” and highlight the unique architecture of our historic buildings.
Saturday Farmer’s Markets are just around the corner with the first one being planned for April. Mandy Clark, Town Talk volunteer and organizer, did a great job last year so I know this year will only be bigger and better. Watch the downtown marquee and Facebook to catch the dates of this monthly event.
Longtime Stroud resident Pat Owens celebrated her birthday this past week. Her son, Randy, was in town from Minnesota and had a BBQ get-together to celebrate the occasion. Pat was one of Stroud’s favorite nurses before she retired. Now she’s just one of our favorites. Babysitting three boys for the past several years makes me more in awe of Pat raising four sons. I’m sure her house was full of laughter and raucousness.
Town Talk is still accepting donations for the mini golf course if you’d like to be a part of this project. We are excited to begin work on it.
We are expecting the course holes to arrive the first week of April. If so, I think Alumni/Memorial Day weekend is attainable for our grand opening celebration. Thanks to everyone who has already joined in to help with this project with cash and in-kind donations. We couldn’t do what we do without each of you.
I’ve received several more pictures for veteran’s banners on Main Street. Don’t delay, order yours today by calling me at 918-527-9833 to honor your loved one’s military service.
Don’t forget to check out all our local merchants for your spring and Easter needs. They are anxious to serve you! Have a great week and remember to shop and dine local………………. first!
