Town Talk

Stroud’s Walk of Honor banners are back up on Main Street. On a pretty day take a walk down Main Street and read the names on our banners. Some of them are currently serving our country, some are retired, and some are deceased. Many were life-long residents of Stroud; some are loved ones of local family members and some are Stroud alums who left their hometown years ago. They all have one thing in common though. They defended the freedoms we all enjoy today. Take the time to go see who these men and women are. You may purchase a banner in honor or memory of your loved one for $125. All profits go to Town Talk and benefit community improvement projects. Call me today at 918-527-9833. It’s not too late to join the Walk of Honor.

Town Talk recently received a donation from the hospital’s foundation to put a shade awning over the playground structure with slides at Foster Park. This will be the finishing touch after Town Talk raised money for playground mulch and spring animals. This will provide a great shaded play area for our kiddos during the hot summer days and protect them from too much sun, also.

We want to thank the American Legion for donating their outside storage building to the miniature golf course. The building was once used for storage. It has not been used in years and is deteriorating. Town Talk will have the building moved but it is going to need some repairs and renovations. It will serve as the course’s club house and snack shack. If anyone is interested in helping us repurpose this building, please contact me. It takes all of us working together to make this golf course happen and we could use some help with a hammer and nails on this project.

Now that spring has arrived Town Talk volunteers will be out finishing projects that were put on hold for the winter. Our goals are to finish the Horn and Stinson buildings, get Pete’s Place pocket park completed, have a shade awning installed at Foster Park and begin work on our Bugle Boy statue project. We will also begin our twice monthly Main Street clean-up nights. I will post those dates and times in the newspaper, on Facebook and on the digital sign. Watch for this and come join us. It’s a great time of community camaraderie and making a difference in Stroud.

I saw on Facebook many people asking if Willa Dean Stinson’s building with all the interesting trinkets in the window is ever open. As people noted on Facebook it has not been open in years and Willa Dean has no plans to reopen this business. Stroud does have many interesting businesses to explore on and off Main Street though so check out all our local merchants and restaurants have to offer. There is lots to see and do in Stroud. Venture out and see what all your hometown has to offer. Have a great week and remember to shop and dine local…………………..first!
