Stroud’s mini-golf course has arrived; in multiple pieces, but it has arrived! Thank you to Miller Truck Lines for delivering it to us. J. P. Morris, Janet Griebel, City Manager Bob Pearman and I put one hole together to see how difficult the process would be. Once we got the hang of it, it fit together simply. We decided we should get the land leveled and a fence erected before we put the course together. We are just waiting, once again, on a stretch of time with no rain. The wet ground has really slowed us down on getting this project on track. When the ground is dry enough, we will also move in a storage shed for the course, too. Elbert Wells is going to spearhead the remodeling of the shed to transform it into our ticket office and snack shack. Macco’s art department helped us design our logo and t-shirts and Brandon Kanady is working on signage. We have many things in the works behind the scenes for Putt Putt Kicks on Route 66 and hopefully we will soon be able to bring those things to fruition on the Main Street property.
Thank you to Brandon Kanady and David Evans for hanging the finishes touches on the Horn and Stinson buildings on Main Street. Town Talk has spruced up those two buildings and given a little life to a couple of our older buildings. We are trying to complete as many projects as we can so that we have things looking great when our alums come home for Alumni/Memorial Day weekend.
Town Talk added a couple of new veteran’s faces to our Main Street Walk of Honor. Stroud High School graduate of 1965 Gary Gardner, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired from the Air National Guard was honored with a banner by his brother, Stroud graduate Elmer Don Gardner, Class of 1967. Another Stroud graduate, Barbara Thompson Hluboky was honored by her husband, Robert and daughter, Lisa Eyler, both of Virginia. Barbara was the sister of longtime Stroud High School secretary Mary Thompson and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Her dad, Jack, was Stroud’s ONG man for years. At the time of her death, Barbara was residing in Virginia, also.
Mark your calendars now to attend Stroud’s service at the Stroud Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Memorial Day. The memorial honoring our deceased servicemen and women is sponsored by Stroud American Legion Post #257, Stroud American Legion Auxiliary and Town Talk. There will be chairs available for those needing to sit and cold water, too. Come join us.
Stroud is a small community of 2,700 people but has so much to offer its citizens, not only with shopping and dining but with many amenities: lake, park, golf course, just to name a few. Let’s show appreciation for what we have and shop and dine and play locally whenever we can. Have a great week!
