The beauty of the fall season

Fall is such a great time of year. It’s one of my favorites for several reasons.

It’s starting to get a little cooler and the leaves usually begin falling at this time of the year.

Depending on how cool it gets and how quickly that is will determine somewhat how much the trees shed their leaves.

My wife has a passion for her flowers and they are beautiful. She says most all of them will continue to thrive until that first really hard freeze we experience. Even some will survive that, she tells me, but others, like those that are really tender, won’t make it.

This is a good time of the year to go to the lake like we did this past weekend and met our good friends Gary and Charlotte down there. It was nice and sunny for the most part, little wind and cool.

At this time of the year, there is not the crowd at the lake like there is during the summer and up through Labor Day weekend.

Where we are is quiet with few people around us. Once school returns from the summer break, the large numbers of people disappear for the most part.

We like it because it’s a time to relax, visit, there are no deadlines and we can do what we want where and when we choose to do it.

I do a lot of thinking when we are there because it gives me an opportunity to reflect on how my early life was, how it changed as I became an adult and what has taken place over the last 40 or more years.

Another reason I enjoy fall is what takes place during this time of year.

Halloween comes at the end of this month, some hunting seasons begin and others will open in November and December.

Thanksgiving, one of my favorite holidays, comes at the latter part of next month as we all know.

By the time Turkey Day gets here, most all of the leaves will be gone from the trees and the flowers may not be pretty anymore but we will have had the opportunity to enjoy the fall colors of all that before it happens.

Of course we have high school and college football, but the COVID has impacted all of that in various ways.

College football just seems to have lost its luster among a number people, even me a little for some reason.

But as I said, this is a great time of year, especially to enjoy the outdoors.
