Happenings at Prairie Pointe

The Prairie Pointe family has welcomed Leon Williams as the newest member of our family.

Leon was born and raised in Stroud by his mom Edith and stepfather Woodrow Sosbee. His real father died when he was two years old.

He graduated Stroud High School and from Oklahoma A & M (now OSU) with an engineering degree and worked in the cement industry as a production supervisor and in the refractory industry.

His expertise in this work took the family all over the United States -- Albuquerque, Birmingham, Pittsburg, St. Louis, Houston, Los Angeles and Tulsa. If you are wondering, a refractory is a material that is resistant to decomposition by heat, pressure, or chemical attack, and retains strength and form at high temperatures. He was happily married to Peggy Hicks for 64 years before her death in 2018.

He has enjoyed several hobbies through the years, collected antique railroad and mining items, coins and paper money, pocket knives and guns. Leon and Peggy were avid golfers and sports fans. Leon has two children, Luann of Stroud and Doug who lives in Georgia. Welcome Leon!

Prairie Pointe is blessed to have residents who lead out in Sunday devotionals for us in the absence of the Stroud Ministerial Alliance churches coming. Helen Arrington led out with an introduction to the book of Galatians. We sang along with some of our favorite gospel songs and dismissed in prayer.

Lisa Miller has joined our volunteer team at Prairie Pointe. Lisa recently retired from Sonoco Energy Transfer with 43 years of service —15 of which she drove from Stroud to Tulsa daily.

After a few months of “quality time” with spouse Rick Miller, she decided to volunteer two to three days a week with us here at the Pointe and in so doing, hopefully avoid criminal charges.

She has been a welcomed addition in the kitchen. There is an old quote that says “Don’t ever question the value of volunteers. Noah’s Ark was built by volunteers; the Titanic was built by professionals.”

There were a few resolutions being considered Thursday evening. I overheard someone say “I resolve to be a little nicer to those people who do exactly what I want.” I also heard “If it ain’t broke it ain’t one of my resolutions.” Rachel Handley vowed to eat more vegetables and Marcy Simon vowed to help her by donating all of hers to the cause.

Happy New Year Lincoln County. May all your worries last as long as your resolutions.
