Town Talk

Well, Christmas break is over so it’s time to get back to work. I woke up this morning thinking about projects I would like to complete between now and May. My main goals for Town Talk during this time frame are a Bugle Boy Statue in Ed Smalley Centennial Park, a Route 66 miniature golf course on Main Street, the pocket park on Main Street completed, our downtown outlined in lights and a shade awning in Foster Park. I don’t think those goals are too lofty, do you? With everyone working together we can make these things happen.

I have had numerous people tell me they’d like to see flags flying on Main Street and Highway 99 year-round, not just on patriotic holidays. I agree with that idea. When the flags are flying and you drive down Main Street it sets a tone for a positive attitude. I know the flags take a beating with these Oklahoma winds which means we must replace them often. I think with so much interest though, community members would be willing to help with this expense. What do you think about an “adopt a light pole” project? Families or individuals could sponsor flags for a pole for one year. Let me know your thoughts on this idea.

Veteran’s banners are still for sale. If you are interested, please call or text me at 918-527-9833. We plan on having them back on the light poles by March or April so order yours today.

I read an article this morning about “shopping local.” It stated that people are tired of hearing that slogan; that they’ve gotten the message. Now the idea is more about prompting people to shop locally. Here is their suggestion so I’m going to try it. Pick one item that you use and buy it locally. When you’re in the store you will automatically see other things you need and buy more items than originally planned. Made sense to me. Let’s see how that works. Have a great week!
