Congratulations to Stroud High School Spirit of Stroud marching band. They took part in their first marching competition this past weekend in Holdenville. They placed 1st in the 3A Division. They worked very hard, and it paid off with a win and our community is very proud of them.
We also appreciate them pumping up our crowd and football team along with our pom pom and cheerleading squads on Friday nights. It’s a great day to be a Tiger!
Everyone is anxiously awaiting the re-opening of GiGi’s Donuts at their new location at the corner of Highways 66 & 99 in Stroud. Their opening date was delayed due to some clean-up work that needed to be done since it was once a gas station. Ta, the owner, told me that she had been in talks with the State agency who would do the work for about a year. No date had been given for the clean-up so they had no idea when it would take place. To their surprise, it got scheduled at the same time they were preparing to re-open. They are anxious to get back to providing our community with delicious donuts. Pictures of the inside were posted on Facebook, so I think we are all in for a pleasant surprise. It is nice to have a business open on that corner. Those two highways are heavily traveled, and it completes the curb appeal for visitors passing through Stroud while it provides a community necessity – donuts!
Stroud’s beloved Jessie Wright passed away at the age of 85 on September 22nd. Jessie was born in Stroud and was a life-long member of our community. She was married to Clifford Wright and was employed by the City of Stroud for 31 years. They raised their children in Stroud; Eddie, Randy, Kevin, Jaelyn and Steven. Jessie was a faithful member of First Baptist Church and was loved by all her knew her. Town Talk offers its condolences to Clifford and Jessie’s family and friends.
Town Talk’s number one volunteer has returned home after an extended vacation cruising the Mediterranean. I think between our projects and her many other community volunteer responsibilities, we just wore her out and she needed a rest. I know she was missed by our community and especially at the Food Bank. Welcome home, Julie, now get back to work! Lol The Stroud Tigers handily beat the Kellyville Ponies this past Friday night. That gives us a win with our first District game. Come out this Friday night to Jack Poskey field and cheer on the Tigers as they take on the Meeker Bulldogs for their homecoming and second District game. Turn on your porch lights, grab your cowbells and come cheer the team on to another victory.
Candy prices are higher this year so it’s not too early to start buying your trick-or-treat goodies from our local merchants. I saw on the Internet someone said candy was so high this year he was just going to turn off his porch light and turn on his front yard sprinkler. Luckily, I know we can find good deals right here in Stroud so our kiddos can have a great Halloween. Dr. Francis might be disappointed if we didn’t pass out some sugarladen treats.
Have a great week and thank you for shopping local……………….. first!
