A good weekend with friends

A couple of weeks ago my wife Pat and I and little pooch Bailey journeyed down to our place at Lake Eufaula.

It was the first time for us to go there for a weekend since late last October. Our good friends Gary and Charlotte Barnett, who have a trailer right next to ours, hadn’t been there either and they joined us.

Gary and I went down last November only to winterize the trailers.

I had gone down in early May, once to de-winterize our trailer and another time to handle something else. But I was only there two or three hours each time.

We had really nice weather. There was plenty of sunshine. On Saturday it was a little breezy.

On Sunday, it was just a gentle, southerly breeze.

Normally, the first trip down each year we spend quite a bit of time cleaning up, raking and bagging leaves and even mowing some.

Gary had already been down there and applied weed killer. I pulled those weeds up a week later when I went down. There wasn’t anything that needed mowing yet.

So, we had little of that to do. We had more time to relax and just goof off.

We all brought food. We usually eat most meals out. And there is one place in Eufaula we really like for lunch. So we went there on Saturday.

Friday night, we just grilled hot dogs. Gary and I went into Checotah for breakfast on Saturday morning and that’s just our thing we like to do.

After lunch on Saturday when we got back to the trailers, we took it easy and a little later some other friends Ron and Rhonda joined us.

We had been invited over for dinner Saturday evening by Charlotte’s cousin so we headed over there early evening. The menu included steaks, spare ribs and some other items and it was all delicious.

Mid-morning Sunday, Gary and I made a trip to a store in Eufaula to pick up some items to go with the hamburgers he grilled for our brunch.

One thing about going to the lake, and any of you who do that or have done it know, we don’t go hungry.

We spent the rest of the time just visiting and relaxing.

Late that afternoon, it was time to trek back to Shawnee. After Pat cleaned our trailer and we straightened things up, we headed for home.

It was an enjoyable weekend at the lake with good friends.

Also, it was a safe time with everything that has been going the past few months.
