Kudos to Mandy Clark for all her hard work on organizing another successful Town Talk Farmer’s Market.
Our next market will be held on October 10th. If you would like a booth, please contact Mandy through Town Talk OK Facebook page.
I have received many positive comments about all the markets. We appreciate all of you supporting this event and the vendors by your continued attendance.
It has been nice to see so much activity on Main Street. We couldn’t do it if the community didn’t show up to shop.
Town Talk’s next meeting will be held Monday, September 21st at 6:00 p.m. at Unique OK. Now that we have finished the fundraising portion for the pavilion bathrooms it is time to start on our next project.
We will be begin raising funds for hand-carved 6-foot granite bugle boy statue that will play reveille every morning and taps every evening. It will be placed in Ed. Smalley Centennial Park.
Another project is a 9-hole portable miniature golf course with a Route 66 theme. David Griebel reminded me that his mom, Rosie Griebel, used to have a miniature golf course in her game room.
The Hole in One which operated in the early ‘80’s was located on the Griebel’s highway front property.
It was about 100 yards north of the Kendrick Road on the west side of Highway 99 in the ‘80s. David even has the original loop-de-loop used at the golf course.
He is donating it to Town Talk. I told him it was just the icing on the cake for me to press forward and make this idea a reality. My brother, Gary, remembers the golf course as does Andrea Flatt Thompson.
It brought back fun memories for them. If you had some fun times at the Hole in One, please share them with us on Town Talk’s Facebook page. We’d love to hear about them.
Mom and I drove to Texas and picked up some more American Flag flowerpots. We have had a total of 13 broken in our last two shipments. Because of this, we decided to make the “hot shot” run ourselves.
Needless to say, we made it home with 10 flowerpots all still in one piece. We are going to make one more trip to pick up the last 10 flowerpots and we will put this fundraiser to rest. It has been a great fundraiser for Town Talk, and we appreciate everyone who bought one. Thanks so much.
Town Talk has a new fundraiser that we are hoping to kick off in the next few weeks. I am waiting on the proof for the project, then hopefully I’ll obtain permission from City Manager Bob Pearman to proceed.
I will announce it to you right here in this column. Stay tuned for more information. I am excited about this fundraiser and it is one I have been pursing for several years. Hopefully, it is about to come to fruition.
Town Talk still has a few Stroud Tiger license plates for sale. They are $20. Contact me on Facebook or call me at 918- 527-9833 if you’d like to purchase one.
I hear the Lion’s Club is hosting a pumpkin patch this year. I don’t know the details, but I’ll find out and let you know next week. I know it’s going to be held in early October. It’s exciting to have our own pumpkin patch right here in Stroud. Thanks, Lions.
Have you visited a local merchant this week? Stop by and see all they have to offer. Thank them for operating a small, local business. Encourage them. It is tough for small businesses to compete against big box and Internet stores. I know it’s been exceptionally hard for them during the pandemic.
They need our support and words of encouragement. Have a great week and as always, remember to shop and dine local……………….first!
