Lions’ season ends

The Lions struck first in their rematch with Luther Friday night, but couldn’t hold on and lost the battle of the Lions 26-8.

Dyland McKinney scored on a short run to put Chandler up 6-0 on its first possession and then ran for the two-point conversion to make it 8-0.

Luther scored every quarter, however, and pulled away, sealing the win with four take-aways in the fourth quarter.

The loss ended Chandler’s season at 6-5 and severed a four-game winning streak.

The Lions started out 1-3, but won five of their next six, with the only loss being to Meeker.

The surge put Chandler into the playoffs as the third-place team in District 2A-2 and sent them to Luther, scene of a 15-14 loss in mid-September.

Dylan McKinney led Chandler with 67 yards rushing on 13 carries.

The Lions had five players with a reception apiece, Darian Mahan catching one for 30, Ashton Yates one for 25, Spencer Clagg for 20, Dylan Mahan for 15 and McKinney for nine.

Taylor Clagg had 11 tackles to lead the Lions, Javon Frazier, Spencer Clagg and Traydon Richardson had six each and Drake Rodriguez and Caedon Parris had five.
