Stroud wins, faces Pawhuska Friday

Stroud gained almost 13 yards per snap and dominated Warner, 48-7, in the first round of the Class A playoffs Friday night.

It was the 11th straight win for the Tigers and puts them into the second round with the Pawhuska Huskies, who’ll bring a 10-1 record and, depending on where you look, a ranking as high as No. 3 in the state to Jack Poskey Field tomorrow night.

“Pawhuska is a very good team, ranked in the top 5 with just the one loss to Pawnee,” said coach Chris Elerick. “We will need to play our best football on both sides this week.

“Offensively, they are very explosive with the pass game.

“They have multiple good receivers and a very good quarterback to get the ball to them.

“Defensively they put a lot of speed on the field and try to get after you that way.

“This will be the biggest game in Class A without a doubt.”

Friday, there was very little doubt about the outcome, as the Tigers scored four times in the first quarter and led 48-0 at intermission.

Dylan Collins started the scoring with a 45-yard pass play from Grant Elerick with two minutes and a half minutes expired.

Gage Parrick followed with the first of his four touchdowns, Drew Elerick caught a touchdown pass from Grant and Parrick ran for another.

The second quarter was more of the same, with Par-rick sandwiching scoring runs around a 13-yard run by Matthew Beck.

“We came out hot and played well early,” Elerick said. “This group is fun to coach, they do a great job being ready to play each week.

“Our energy was great and I think that always helps.

“Defensively we got after them and on offense we continued to be explosive in all phases.”

Elerick said the Tigers will be in good health for Pawhuska but will be missing an important lineman.

“A few bumps and bruises, but for it being this late in the season we are in pretty good shape,” he said. “We did lose Kyle Guest for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

“Kyle is a freshmen who has done a good job for us this year”
