Tigers win big at Wynnewood

Gage Parrick ran for five touchdowns on only seven carries, leading Stroud to 50-9 hammering of Wynne-wood that put the Tigers into the driver’s seat in District A-7.

Parrick finished with 115 yards and scoring runs of 6, 6, 72, 12 and 18 yards.

The Tigers’ overall performance was thoroughly dominating, as they racked up 473 yards of offense and held Wynnewood to 256.

“Friday night at Wynnewood was a solid team effort,” said coach Chris Elerick. “Clearly our best of the year.

“Wynnewood was at 2-0 in the district and we got after it pretty good. After their opening drive we settled in and played very good on defense.

“Offensively we were explosive all night. Our varsity offense only ran about 30 plays for well over 400 yards.

“Up front we blocked well, and our players did a good job with the ball in their hands.”

Parrick started the Tigers’ scoring late in the first period when he ran for six yards and then caught the conversion pass from Grant Elerick.

He ran in another score mid-way though the period and peeled off a 72-yarder with 38 seconds left in the half to make it 22-6.

Two more scores early in the third quarter made it 36-6 and eliminated any suspense that remained.

The Tigers are 6-0 for the year now and 3-0 in district and are the only team unbeaten in district play.

Wayne, Wynnewood and Konawa all have 2-1 records. The Tigers beat Wayne and Wynnewood the last two weeks and go to Konawa in two weeks.

With four games to go before the playoffs, Elerick said he doesn’t believe there will be any trouble keeping the team’s attention on the task at head.

“I don’t think focus will be a problem,” he said. “We have a lot in front of us, as well as a lot to improve on.

“We are still growing as a team on both sides of the ball. And this team has showed their willingness to work - they are a good group to practice with each day.

“This is a short week, with fall break, so we will need to be focused to be productive.

“The next four weeks will go fast and we will need to be ready to go headed into the playoffs which will be here before you know it.”
