The Stroud Alumni officers are busy planning this year’s alumni activities scheduled for Memorial Day weekend.

They are asking all interested alums to join them for their next meeting. It will be held this Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the new high school.

Enter through the front doors and you will be directed to the meeting site.

Town Talk bingo scheduled for Thursday, March 26th has been cancelled.

We will reschedule when things get back to normal. We want to be sure all our supporters remain healthy.

Town Talk is working with City Manager Bob Pearman on the purchase of a digital sign for downtown Stroud. We are hoping to have it installed and ready to go by alumni weekend.

I received a donation in the mail from Stroud alum Ivoria Stephens Conley. Ivoria graduated with the class of 1952 and her mother was Marie Stephens.

The best thing about being a community volunteer, besides being able to help Stroud, is all the wonderful people I reconnect with and the new ones I meet.

Ivoria sent me a note saying she thought the sign was a good idea for Stroud, and she wanted to be a part of it.

She also shared with me that my dad’s baby brother, Ralph Smalley, was her boyfriend when she was a young girl.

Ralph passed away at the age of 13 and so I never knew my uncle. It was nice to hear from someone who did.

Someone posted on Facebook that businesses like Wal-Mart and Target will survive this virus pandemic but it’s our small, local businesses that will struggle.

What better time than now to show our support for our Stroud businesses?

Let’s remember to “shop and dine local” and help our friends and neighbors weather this crisis.
