Cross country roundup

Lincoln County runners brought home several medals at meets over the weekend. Stroud’s Madison Ham took third at the Okemah meet and Gabi Morris finished seventh.

I recall the Saturday that McSwain and Big Richard came by the house with their golf clubs in the trunk. I am a hazy as to whether this was planned or spontaneous, but hey. It was 40 years ago, so I am entitled to a little haziness.

Meeker opens strong, gets dominating win

It was an all-inclusive evening for Caden Wolford Friday night against Stroud. The Meeker senior kicked off, ran for a touchdown, caught a touchdown pass, had two sacks, made 12 tackles, ran for 192 yards and kicked three extra points.

NRC falls in program opener

The North Rock Creek Cougars traveled to far eastern Oklahoma for the first football game in program history, falling 22-6 Friday night. Three years into their new high school, the Cougars are playing an independent schedule this year and have their first three games on the road.

Prague puts up a W in opener at Luther

Prague opened up its season with a statement game against Luther Friday, beating the Lions 26-14 and avenging a loss from last year while announcing that this team is tougher than last year’s.

Softball tournament week

It was a busy week of softball, with area teams playing in tournaments. Above left, Carney catcher Trinity Clark collided briefly with the umpire while trying to collect a popup behind the plate against Wellston in the Depew tournament. The blue got his mask off well enough to verify the catch.
