NRC falls in program opener

The North Rock Creek Cougars traveled to far eastern Oklahoma for the first football game in program history, falling 22-6 Friday night. Three years into their new high school, the Cougars are playing an independent schedule this year and have their first three games on the road.

Prague puts up a W in opener at Luther

Prague opened up its season with a statement game against Luther Friday, beating the Lions 26-14 and avenging a loss from last year while announcing that this team is tougher than last year’s.

It was a busy week of softball, with area teams playing in tournaments. Above left, Carney catcher Trinity Clark collided briefly with the umpire while trying to collect a popup behind the plate against Wellston in the Depew tournament. The blue got his mask off well enough to verify the catch.

Football in the COVID era starts for real this week, with five area schools playing in Zero Week.

After months of wondering, the long awaited answer has arrived. The Friday night lights will be turned on and football will be played. With the COVID-19 virus, concerns have been raised regarding masks, social distancing and any new precautionary procedures.

Local high school football teams got their first day of full-pad practices on Friday and got in some of their traditional scrimmages over the weekend.

Randall second at Stroud meet

Meeker sophomore Riley Randall ran an 11:10 at the Stroud Cross Country meet on Saturday, taking second place. An All-Stater last year as a freshman, Randall finished among a pack of runners from Lincoln Christian, which had the first-, third- and fourthplace finishers.

Most area schools hit the field last week for football practice and had their annual intra-squads on Friday and Saturday. Top right, Prague head coach Mike Hedge talks to the Red Devils following their intra-squad Friday night. The Red Devils will host North Rock Creek in scrimmage at 6 p.m.
