Prague puts up a W in opener at Luther

Prague opened up its season with a statement game against Luther Friday, beating the Lions 26-14 and avenging a loss from last year while announcing that this team is tougher than last year’s.

A year ago, the Red Devils faced Cashion in the season opener, taking a 28-0 beating and getting handled in all aspects, according to coach Mike Hedge.

“I felt in last year’s opener we got out-played physically and got beat on every part of the game,” Hedge said. “This game, I felt we won that.

“The biggest difference is the toughness of the kids.

“When other people were wanting were wanting off the field, our guys were still chugging along”

Hedge said the Red Devils suffered a few cramps in the game, which was kicked off with the temperature nearly 100 degrees.

Part of that was due to the Prague practice schedule, which included a no-huddle scripted offense in the August heat.

“We averaged about 75 snaps a day,” Hedge said. “We practiced in the heat, knowing it was going to be hot.”

The Red Devils dominated statistically, racking up more than 330 yards in offense while holding the Lions to 122.

Prague got most of its offense on the ground, with Trevor McGinnis rushing for 104 yards on 25 carries and Tyloer Carpenter getting 85 yards and a score on nine carries.

Quarterback Davis rushed for 29 yards and two scores and completed five passes for 85 yards and another score.

Tyler Carpenter caught three of his passes and Peyton Ezell and Bryaden Davis one each.

“I felt we controlled the game,” Hedge said. “I never was worried about losing it.
