A day at the beach

It’s beach day and I’m getting up way too early on vacation because the later it gets, the less likely you are to get a good spot by the water. My dad and older brother join me to set up our canopy and lawn chairs beachside, and as I haul our stuff, I catch a whiff of the ocean salt in the air.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day weekend was a mixture of visiting several cemeteries and putting out flowers and taking a journey down to the lake and having some down time.My wife Pat and I usually visit four cemeteries, two here in the Shawnee area and two more in Oklahoma City.

There’s no other experience like a baseball game in the summer. It starts as you maneuver around in your car until a spot presents itself and then you have to endure the worst part of it all, the journey in the summer heat to the ballpark.

My mom called my older brother and me into her room, saying my dad called and explained my Uncle Shayne had been charged with a felony.At 10 years old, I didn’t know what to think, I panicked in sadness for hours as I cried myself to sleep on my mom’s floor.

The American Legion Auxiliary will be putting flags on veteran’s graves at the cemetery on Thursday, May 23rd at 9:00 a.m. If you are available, come out and volunteer. We have close to eight hundred flags that need to be placed at graves.
