Nearly 2½ years ago, in the 2020 General Election, voters throughout Lincoln and Pottawatomie counties joined other Oklahomans across the state in soundly rejecting State Question 805.
They shelved attempts to reform state sentencing laws.
Aaliyah came home last week in a great state of excitement because she had acquired some technology she’d been wanting.
A record player.
Yes, a portable record player, the same type that every teenaged girl wanted in the 1950s.

Once again America will celebrate Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a holiday that is bittersweet for many people. I am looking forward to enjoying a long weekend.
Last week I had a doctor’s appointment and during the course of the visit, my physician mentioned that I had what he termed “an important” birthday the previous week.
In case anyone cares or is just interested in knowing, I turned 75 a couple of weeks ago.
It was the second week of second grade at Fitzhugh when an undersized brownhaired boy with a white spot in his hair showed up.
Mrs. Duffer introduced him to us as Nelson McSwain, who would be joining our class.
This was an exciting development.
My apologies for spelling my friend Janell Kinnamon’s name wrong in last week’s paper. I thought about telling you I put an “e” on the end of her name because my nickname for her is Ja-Nellie. I thought I heard once that honesty is the best policy so I’m coming clean.
This coming Tuesday, May 9, will mark a year since the day we had to take our pooch Bailey to the vet and have her put to sleep.
My wife Pat and I think of her frequently. In fact, we often catch ourselves saying something to our cat and calling her Bailey.
Our veterans’ banners should be up this month, in time for Memorial Day. City Manager Bob Pearman is busily working on a QR code system for this project. The technology is not one I’ve used very much but I know it is quickly taking over how we view things, pay bills, etc.
