Chandler speech, drama shine

It’s been a strong week for the Chandler High School speech and drama department.On Saturday, students competed at a speech and debate competition at Mount St. Mary’s Catholic High School, taking home second place overall in 4A.

Lincoln County commissioners have approved applications and other related documents to a REAP Grant for a project in District 3.Their action came during a special county commissioners meeting last week.

Mattie White has been named the 2025 Chandler Christmas Festival Queen.The senior was among 13 candidates who applied for the honor and was selected by a committee of judges. White will receive a $1,000 scholarship for the honor.

The Chandler Junior High Student Council held its annual Veterans Day contests to honor veterans in the community, according to advisor Pam Anderson.

SFD collects food to help Stroud Food Pantry

The Stroud Fire Department and a brigade of teen volunteers set out on Nov. 4 to collect non-perishable food items for their annual canned food drive. This year, they collected a total of 1,658 pounds of food and 31.8 pounds of non-food items, according to the Stroud Food Pantry.

Several people have inquired recently if I’ve been quail hunting yet this year. The season just opened last Saturday and my response has been the same to each one of them that I didn’t open the season and I’m not sure I am going to get to go this season since I have cancer.

Town Talk

The Phillips 66 sign that sat behind OnCue for so long finally has a new home, the corner of Route 66 and Highway 99. When OnCue remodeled they took the sign down and decided not to put it up again.
