Meeker Town Board meeting

Meeker Town Board of Trustees have learned that the Growth and Development Committee created many years ago actually is and has been non-existent. Meeker Town Administrator Jeff Wilbourn confirmed the day after last week’s regular meeting of the Trustees that the Town Board created the Growth and Development Committee on Aug. 18, 2008.

The only current member of the Trustees who was on the Board at that time is Aaron Head.

The snafu came when it was recently learned that the indenture approved 15 years ago setting up the Growth and Development Committee was never filed with the Lincoln County Clerk nor the Secretary of State as it should have been making it null and void and non-existent. Head indicated during last week’s meeting he didn’t realize the person apparently responsible for filing it had not filed it or he would have inquired about it.

The person who was responsible for filing it has not been revealed publicly as of yet.

Jim Hodgens, the Trustees’ current legal counsel, advised them, “What needs to be done is a new Trust Authority indenture created.”

During the Trustees’ October meeting, they voted 4-0 to approve a proposed business plan and change the name of the Meeker Growth and Development Authority to just Meeker Growth and Development.

In doing so, they agreed to create the Meeker Trust Authority.

But on last week’s agenda was an item to possibly vote to void the action the Trustees had taken in October. That agenda item reportedly was requested by Trustee Aaron Head, who was unable to attend the October meeting, and his wife, Teresa Head.

When Trustees came to that item, that was when they learned that the Meeker Growth and Development Authority didn’t actually exist and never has.

As a result, the Trustees voted to take no action on the item. That vote came after a lengthy discussion among Trustees, Hodgens, Wilbourn and several in the audience who were attending the meeting for that particular item.
