A Dale High School junior, who is no stranger to winning, has captured a couple more major awards showing her cattle.
Morley Griffith, 17-year-old daughter of Matt and Twana Griffith, recently showed the Grand Champion Red Angus at the Tulsa State Fair. “There were about 1,100 total heifers in the show
“There were about 1,100 total heifers in the show and several hundred exhibitors,” Morley explained. “Within the Red Angus breed, there were 85 heifers and that many exhibitors,” she added.
Morley also competed in the North American International Exposition in Louisville, Ky. “It’s the largest, Purebred livestock event in the world,” she said.
“There are 10 divisions, there were 30,000 entries from 48 states and around 150 head of Red Angus cattle in the show,” Morley noted.
She captured the Reserve Grand Champion Angus at that show. “This was the crown on the cake for me,” she believes. “I’ve been either Grand or Reserve Grand Champion at every national Red Angus Show in the country,” Morley said.
And she still has the remainder of her junior year and all of her senior year to compete.
In 2019, showing her two-year-old Red Angus heifer Mimi, she won the Fort Worth Livestock Show where the National Red Angus Show was held.
With that, they captured the Triple Crown, having claimed the American Royal in Kansas City and the Denver National Western Show.
Last year at the American Royal in Kansas City, she won the Champion Intermediate Showman Award and also claimed the Reserve Grand Overall Showman title.
Morley’s next show, she says, is the Cattlemen’s Congress in Oklahoma City that takes place Jan. 1-16, 2022.
At school, Morley is a member of the National Honor Society, a member of the Oklahoma Honor Society and an officer of the Dale FFA chapter holding the position of secretary.
She also serves on the Dale Student Council as Historian. She is a manager on the girl’s basketball team.
She is currently president of the Oklahoma Junior Red Angus Association, president of the Oklahoma Club Calf Association and on the board of the Oklahoma Junior Cattlemen’s Association.
Morley believes, “I’ve been truly blessed to have such a supportive show team and the support of my parents.”
