Traffic stop leads to felony charge

A Chandler driver is facing four charges after a traffic stop by Chandler police in late March led to his arrest.

Dustin Thomas Eyestone, 27, was formally charged on April 20 in Lincoln County District with a felony and three misdemeanors.

The felony is for driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor. The misdemeanors include operating a vehicle with defective equipment or unsafe conditions, transporting an opened container of intoxicating beverage and obstructing an officer.

A $5,000 bond was set for Eyestone and he made his initial appearance on April 22. Special Judge Emily Mueller scheduled his pre-preliminary hearing for 1:30 p.m. on July 1.

The DUI charge accuses Eyestone of driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol on March 20 in Lincoln County.

The operating a vehicle with defective equipment or unsafe conditions charges him with operating a motor vehicle on public roads with a defective and inoperable headlight on the same date.

Count 3 is for transporting an open container of beer on public roads.

Count 4 accuses Eyestone refusing to give his name to Chandler Officer Shane Mustard when stopped for driving without a headlight, delaying Mustard in the performance of his duties.

Prosecutors filed supplemental information in the case showing that on Oct. 5, 2015 Eyestone was convicted in Lincoln County District Court of DUI and given a two-year deferred sentence.
