Carl Freeman passed away from cancer on the afternoon of September 11, 2022, in Claremore, Oklahoma. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his loved ones at home.

Carl was 96 years old.

He was born in the town of Kalima, North Carolina on February 14, 1926. He was the seventh child of William Columbus and Stella Freeman Carl was a WWII veteran. He served 4 years in the Navy on the vessels LST 481, LST 285, and the battleship USS Black. He was discharged with honorable distinction, receiving many medals to commemorate his service.

Following his military service, he became a truck driver. He did this for almost 75 years, having logged well over 5 million miles. He was an avid fisherman and Atlanta Braves fan. Those who visited his home would often find an old western movie playing on the TV. He was also a member of the American Legion for the last 37 years.

Many friends and family members would say he was a kind soul and never knew a stranger. He was willing to help anyone in need, no matter the cost. He was witty and sharp, having never suffered from memory loss. He could always cheer up those who needed it with a joke and a smile. Carl loved his family most of all and he made sure they knew it.

Freeman was preceded in death by his parents, William Columbus and Stella Freeman; brothers, William H. Freeman, James E. Freeman, and Omar G. Freeman; sisters, Winnie Franklin, Annie E. Kerr, and Lelia Harlow; and daughter/granddaughter Ladonna Robinson.

Carl is survived by his wife, Lillian Mae Freeman; brothers, Robert Freeman and Ernest C. Freeman; sister Inez Fulbright; daughters, Barbara Schwalb, Debbie Gammons, and Geri Duckworth; sons, Danny Freeman and William Freeman; grandchildren, Daniel Freeman, Brian Freeman, Matthew Gammons, Seth Duckworth, Kendra Gammons, Erin Lundeen and Shannon McClary; greatgrandchildren, Kayla Goforth, Trace Robinson, William Tyson Freeman, Tyler Freeman, Kayla Freeman, Emily Freeman, Dakota Freeman, Shya Freeman, Brayan Gammons, Kenzington Freeman, Dalton Freeman, Layton Phillips, Shephard Duckworth, Myles Sullivan and Meyer Lundeen; and greatgreat- grandchildren Aubrey Freeman, Charlee Freeman and Emberly Freeman.

As per Carl’s request, no funeral or memorial service will be held. Instead, he would appreciate those to plant a tree in his honor and to thank a trucker.
