McLoud approves budget

The McLoud City Council during its most recent meeting approved the proposed Fiscal Year budget for 2023 that begins July 1 this year.

Council members also adopted a resolution on approving the budget.

Operating revenue in the General Fund is projected at $1,850,000. In the Cemetery Care Fund, the revenue is figured at $1,500 and in the Street and Alley Fund it’s projected at $210,000.

Total expenditures are projected to be $1,795,500. Revenues are expected to exceed expenditures by $63,500.

The beginning fund balance on July 1 this year is anticipated to be $896,379 with an ending fund balance on July 30, 2023 of $959,879.

In other business, the Council tabled action on waiving the McLoud Chamber of Commerce fees for the Blackberry Festival July 8-9 this year.

Council members approved renewal of the contract for their City Attorney Mike Warwick.

They also approved the renewal of the contract for Municipal Judge Jim Palinkas.

Council members agreed to table holding an executive session to discuss City Manager Buck Day and tabled action on renewing his contract.

Vice Mayor Ralph Snider, who conducted the meeting in the absence of Mayor Stan Jackson, requested those actions until the mayor could also be present.

Day told Council members, “My door is always open and you can always come in and see me anytime.”

The Council approved a budget amendment totaling $20,000 to handle costs for the library and park.

Council members heard a presentation from the auditor on the Fiscal Year 2021 audit, then voted to accept the audit.

Meeting as the Public Works Authority, they adopted a resolution regarding the increase in utility rates for commercial accounts that they had approved during their April meeting.
