A 15-year-old Davenport High School girl was killed Sunday evening in a one-vehicle traffic crash on Kendrick Road between Kendrick and Stroud.

Described as “a wonderful young lady and strong leader,” Jimmie Brownfield died in the crash that sources indicated happened just east of the 850 Road and 3530 Road intersection. Time of the collision was about 8:30 p.m., sources have confirmed.

Davenport High School Principal Misty Emmons said on Monday “We brought in our inside and outside counselors, local preachers, grievance counselors and a plethora of support.”

Emmons stated, “that right after school on Monday blue balloons were released,” noting Jimmie’s involvement in the FFA progTam where she was an officer.

“She was very, very involved in FFA,” Emmons added. A little prayer service was held on Wednesday morning, the principal said. “We want to be the support for the kids,” Emmons stated.

John Greenfield, teacher and longtime coach at Davenport, said this week, “I had her in Driver’s Education last year. I coached her brother,” Greenfield commented. “I had her in seventh and eighth grade Physical Education class.

“She was a wonderful young lady, always happy. I never heard her say anything negative about anyone, she was always positive,” he continued.

Emmons noted, “I knew Jimmie very well. She was a strong leader, strong personality, good student, and a firm believer in FFA. She helped young 4-Hcrs, was very good with younger students and a joy to be around,” she continued.

Robert Carroll, who has been Vocational Agricultural instructor at Davenport for 32 years, described Jimmie “as the life of the room, life of the party who got everyone going. She brightened the room.

“She was a good leader. She was involved in Public Speaking, she was involved in most FFA activities. She was our treasurer this year and was our Sentinel last year,” he said.
