Chandler took Westville to the woodshed Thursday night, beating the Yellowjackets 42-16 in a game that was not as close as the final score.
The Lions led 42-0 at the half and the clock ran continuously in the second half except for one injury timeout.
The Lions bagged 460 yards of total offense and went to third down only five times in the game.
The win puts Chandler in a tie for second place with Sperry in District 2A-4. Both clubs are 3-1 in district and 4-3 overall, with the district losses coming at the hands of Metro Christian. Chandler plays at Sperry on Nov. 1.
“We set a lot of our own challenges tonight, just in ourselves,” coach Jack Gray said after the game. “Film will tell us about that.
“As we go back and look at it, I’m sure we’ll find some things to work on. Last week, we found things to work on just to keep bettering ourselves.”
Chandler scored on its first drive on a 48-yard catch-and-run pass play from Cruz Jackson to Ty Garver, who had worked himself open behind the Yellowjacket defense.
The second possession was a scoring drive, too, as Grant McGinnis ran two yards for the first of four touchdowns he scored.
That made it 14-0 with 6:22 left in the first quarter. The Lions stopped themselves with a lost fumble on the first possession of the second quarter, but Mc-Ginnis intercepted a pass and sprinted 52 yards for a score.
He followed with a well-blocked 13-yard scoring run with 4:16 left in the half and then caught a 24yard touchdown pass, making it 35-0 with 2:10 left.
Jackson hit Dylan Rodriguez for a 45-yard score in the final minute of the half.
Westville scored once in the third and once in the fourth to account for the final score.
Boston Estes was money on all of Chandler’s extrapoint kicks and the Lions had a 42-0 lead at the halftime break.
“We came out and threw the ball well,” Gray said. “We had a couple that we let go and we had the one right before halftime where we threw it in the middle for an interception.
“Other than that, we took good care of the ball and made some good throws. We spread the ball around and had our run plays hitting.”
Next on the schedule is Tulsa Central, which comes to Chandler on Friday. The Braves are 3-4 on the season and 2-2 in district play.
“They’ve got some dudes who can go,” Gray said. “They have some good athletes and will be a tougher opponent.”
