Be sure and check out the new welcome sign on the east side of Stroud located on Route 66. There will soon be on one of the west side of Stroud, also. They are amazing and will certainly get people’s attention as they enter our community. These signs werepurchasedwithagrant from Route 66 Centennial Commission in preparation for the 100th birthday celebration of the Mother Road taking place in 2026.
Be aware that the westbound I-44/Turner Turnpike service plaza will temporarily have all commercial truck parking closed until early 2026 as part of a project to modernize and reconstruct the Stroud service plaza. This will feature a full reconstruction of the McDonald’s and Love’s Travel Stop buildings. Motorists will still be able to access fuel, restrooms, and food at the existing business facilities during construction. Commercial trucks should locate alternative long-term parking locations.
Tiny Tots Story Time is happening at the Stroud Library. This activity is for children 2, 3 and 4 years of age. Contact the library to register your child and an adult must remain with the child during the presentation. March 5’s story time is “Animal Houses.” You may see the complete Google Calendar for upcoming dates at stroud. booksys.net/opac/spl/.
Five Star BBQ recently announced they are firing up their smoker and will be open for business from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. all Sundays in March.

One of Stroud’s most beloved community members, Keturah Brown, passed away this past Friday at Prairie Pointe where she had made her home for several years. Keturah graduated from Seminole High School but two years after graduation she married her husband, Bill Brown, and they made their home south of Stroud on the family farm, Brown’s Lake. I had known Keturah, but it was through her loyal support of all Town Talk projects and her active membership with the American Legion Auxiliary that we developed a close friendship. As her obituary so lovingly captured her spirit, she was feisty, fun and the life of every party. She will be missed by all who knew her and Stroud will definitely miss her presence. Town Talk offers its condolences to the Brown family.
My great-nephews August and Lincoln are playing baseball with a traveling nine and under team this season made up of kiddos from the Lincoln/Creek County area. They played their season opening tournament this weekend in Jenks and took home first place after playing four games of baseball. Team members include Kanon Hilbert, Greyson Hubbard, August Smalley, Lincoln Smalley (all from Stroud), Kolsen Biggs, Boston Blakeman-Raney (both from Bristow), Thomas Duncan (Okemah), Korvyn Herring, Chris Soto, J’Ceon Coats (all from Chandler), and Hudson Stewart (Wellston). Each of these boys played hard and worked together as a team to take home the top prize. Town Talk wishes them continued success in their season. The team is coached by Kreg and Kody Hilbert and Kyle Emmons.
While I was at the ballfield this weekend, I overheard a woman speaking to a friend about a gift she had bought for a shower. She said, “We could have ordered exactly what we wanted from Dallas, but I told the store owner we like to shop local.” That made me smile. Have a great week and thank you for choosing to shop local……………… first!
